Durham County Democratic Women would like to remind everyone:
Durham County Annual Precinct Meetings will be held on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 at 7:00pm. The county convention will be held Saturday April 16, 2011.
What’s It All About?
Between now and mid-March, every Democratic precinct in North Carolina will be meeting to elect precinct officers and county convention delegates, discuss the party's platform, share ideas, hear from candidates, enjoy fellowship and get ready for the crucial 2012 election. The date for all Durham County meetings is March 8th, with a very few (pre-determined) exceptions. All registered Democrats, (and it’s not too late to register) are welcome to attend their precinct meeting — and we are urging all Durham County residents who are registered Democrats to do so!
Not sure you are a registered democrat? Just call the Durham County Board of Elections at (919) 560-0700. They will answer any questions you have regarding your voter registration or related matters.
Precinct Meetings Matter
Precinct meetings are the foundation of the Democratic Party and truly the most grassroots level of politics. Everyone is encouraged to attend and given the opportunity to learn; to be heard and to assist in improving where they live, play, work, study and worship.
Precinct members are also your neighbors! As Democrats are assigned to precincts based on geography. Gathering a group of local Democrats together on the grassroots level is what the Party is all about: you can share information about your neighborhood, candidates, and issues that affect your community; discuss ways to get out the vote, help candidates and hold elected officials more accountable; and plan projects you may agree to work on throughout the year.
You Can Pass Resolutions
Precinct meetings will submit to the county convention, resolutions to be voted on and, if passed, will go on to the state convention, where, if voted on and passed, they become state party resolutions. Resolutions are a great way to document your beliefs, your values and our party. In fact, each year, hundreds of resolutions are adopted at precinct meetings all across North Carolina. Which Precinct Are You Assigned To?

Attend The Meeting!
Each precinct must have at least five registered Democrats in attendance to be considered organized and to given a vote at subsequent conventions and county party meetings. Once you get there, if you are up for it, run for precinct office and be a precinct chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer or a delegate to the county convention for your precinct. Precinct meeting attendees vote for these officers and, each year, almost every person who attends their precinct meeting has been able to be a county convention delegate if they want to.
Attend the County Convention, Too
The annual Convention will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Being a county delegate means you can vote at the county convention on key issues, procedures, resolutions, etc. It is not only one of the most important meetings of the year, it is also a lot of fun and always interesting.
